Everyone knows it’s a huge inconvenience when your toilet is clogged and toilet water along with other waste overflows the toilet and starts landing on the bathroom floor. It is important to clean this up right away because you want to get rid of that waste and the longer water is on the floor, the more harm that can be done to your home. If you do what is recommended below, then you won’t have to worry about serious problems stemming from a clogged toilet.
1: Turn Off The Water
The most urgent thing you have to do is stop the water that is coming out of the toilet. In the ideal situation, you will have another person with you so they can help you do the following steps at the same time. Remove the top of the toilet so you see the actual pipes then apply pressure on the valve which will have a circular shape. then pick up the float. These steps will prevent more water from getting into the toilet. The other person that is with you should shut off the water. If you happen to be alone then you will have to shut off the valve yourself and complete the aforementioned steps as soon as possible to minimize the damage done to your home.
2: Clean Up The Floor
Any water that happened to spill onto the floor, you will want to clean up as soon as possible. Water which is left on the floor for an extended amount of time can result in water damage. So the next thing you will want to do is mop up the water and get as much water off the floor and into a bucket.
3: Try To Unclog Your Toilet With A Plunger
Every bathroom should have a plunger even if your bathroom lacks a bathtub and shower stall. You will have to get one if you don’t have a plunger anywhere in your home. Once you have a plunger in your possession, you will want to use it to get rid of what is clogging up your toilet. In most cases, your work will be done once you have plunged the toilet. The following steps will only need to be followed if you are still dealing with a clogged toilet after using a plunger.
4: Use A Plumbing Snake
If you still have a clogged toilet after you tried using the plunger a few times, then you will need a toilet snake which is also called an auger. Stick the auger and have it go in as much as you possibly can. You will need the plunger once you have used the auger. If you are unsuccessful after this then you will need a plumber to help with your clogged toilet.
5: Dispose of Water in the Bucket
If your toilet is no longer plugged up, take the bucket that has the water which was on the floor and dump that down the toilet. You will want to soak the mop and bucket with hot water before you put them away.
6: Sterilize Your Bathroom from Microorganisms
You don’t want to leave anything behind that could make you or your family sick. You will want to combine some hot water with some bleach. Clean all parts of the bathroom that the water from the toilet has come in contact with. If you use a cloth instead of a mop, you might want to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
7: Calling A Plumber
Most times, you won’t need to worry about calling a plumber and the bill that will be charged but there are some cases where you won’t be able to fix the problem on your own. When that happens, call a plumber who has all the tools needed to help you if you have a clogged toilet.
