Lateral lining for pipes is an ingenious system of coating the pipe inners emanating from the mains to the point of discharge with a thin resin or epoxy. These are nothing but a lining provided in the lateral pipes on the ground laid as a conduit for the flow of water or sewerage. For example, a lateral sewer pipe carries wastewater from toilets, bathrooms, kitchen sinks, washing machines etc. to the nearby mainline sewer. A lining made out of resin is inserted into such pipelines to refurbish the old pipeline.

Lateral pipe lining is a customized network of pipelining designed with the customer’s budget and convenience in mind. It involves inserting a liner in the existing pipeline, mainly through an entry point like the sewer cleanout. The lining is made of resin and has a long life. This longevity ensures that the liquid flowing in the pipe does not spill out into the ground. It is an addendum to the existing structure of pipes but does not involve any digging or trenching.

Process for laying lateral lining for pipes

The inner of the pipe is thoroughly cleaned with hydro-jetting to ensure no loose particles of the pipe structure are sticking to the walls of the pipe. This scraping of the inner portion will make the pipe ideal to apply a layer on it uniformly.

Then an epoxy coated liner is fed into the pre-laid water or sewer lines to form a uniform layer in the pipes either through steam or hot water. The hot substance blown into the pipeline evens out the cracks of the inner pipe and settles to cool down after a few hours.

The resultant cooled epoxy liner takes the form of the pipe and forms another pipe-like substance within the pipe. Since this whole process is trenchless, there is very minimal earthwork or breaking up that is involved in laying lateral lining for pipes.
