Most of us at one time or another have had to deal with removing rust from various objects around the house. When it comes to rust stains in your toilet, there are a few different solutions you can try to remove the stains, many of which can be made with matireals found around the house. First and foremost, I would recommend the simple mixture of vinegar and water. By mixing one part vinegar and one part water you have a quick, cheap, and easy solution that will allow you to scrub the rust stains right out. You just apply the mixture to the stains and scrub, and the rust stains should disappear.

If that doesn’t do the trick, another powerful solution can be made by replacing the water with baking soda. The combination of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part of vinegar is another powerful tool for busting those pesky rust stains. This solution may work on some of those tougher stains that vinegar and water will not. These two methods work more often than not, and provide a quick and easy solution to the rust stains.

However, if it is a tougher stain and resists these home remedies, there are stronger solutions you can purchase for the job. If you look to go this route, I would recommend going with a trusted brand such as CLR. The formular for CLR is built to remove rust and rust stains, and should do the trick. The negative is that it is going to be more expensive than if you were to go with a home remedy, but for some of the tougher jobs it may be required. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. I have used CLR a number of times and have never had any problems with it.

There are a few other brands you could go with as well, including Lysol Rust Remover or Lime-A-Way if you prefer. As long as the product has citric acid in it (such as lime) then the product should work to remove the rust stains. There are a number of different brands that meet this criteria and can get the job done. While the home solutions should work, there are several store bought solutions you can use as well. As long as you apply any of them and scrub, you should be able to remove any rust stains from your toilet.
