There are devices that we use every day, such as water heaters, that we don’t remember, until one day they fail. There are some keys that can tell you when it is necessary to replace it, such as age, it is very important to know the age of your water heater. It is not recommended that you wait until your boiler starts leaking, as this only brings more problems and expense. And among other common problems is to see the oxidized water.

But, when should you replace your water heater?

The water heater is often forgotten. You put it into a small space in your basement or in a small closet and then you only see it every now and then. But, your heater is responsible for delivering hot water upon request. Waking up on a cold morning to discover that you don’t have hot water to shower is extremely frustrating. The same happens with trying to wash the dishes or even the hands when the hot water does not arrive.

That’s why here we will show you 5 signs that your water heater needs to be replaced.

The good news is that water heaters last a long time, so if you have to replace one, it won’t be a project that you have to do again for a few years. If you are not sure how long your heater has had, look for these 5 signs that a problem is brewing:

1. You have hot water but it doesn’t last

If you turn on the hot water and only get it for a short period, the water heater has a problem. It can be a problem with the thermostat, the heating unit or even an obstruction or leakage in one of the heater pipes to the house.

2. There is no hot water at all

This does not mean that it is taking a long time to heat the water. This is for when you don’t have hot water at all. There are many reasons why this can happen, from a broken thermostat, leaks, electrical malfunctions until the heater breaks and it is necessary to replace it.

3. The water has a strange taste or smell

You can smell and taste the water inside the unit or when it comes out of the faucet. If it tastes metallic, you should replace your unit as the water is becoming unsafe to drink.

4. Noises

Any electrical device will make some noise, usually a low hum. But, if you are hearing hissing noises, loud whistles, pops or blows coming from your water heater, it is a good sign that it should be repaired or replaced, depending on the problem.

5. Leaks

Check around your heating unit. Do you see water spots or areas where there are water spots? Is there standing water near the heater?

If so, that is a great warning sign and you need a plumber to replace the unit as soon as possible. A leaking water heater is dangerous … don’t let it continue to work this way!
