Advantages of a water softener

If you live in areas with particularly hard water, you should consider whether to install a water softener. A water softener works via ion exchange. Water is rinsed through once, magnesium and calcium ions are replaced with sodium ions. Overall soft water prevents calcification of your water pipes and increases their lifespan.

How is the lime removed from the drinking water?

Strictly speaking, lime is only what remains when very hard water evaporates. It consists largely of calcium and magnesium. Water softener systems are installed in the house installation near the water meter. The hard drinking water, which is supplied by the waterworks, flows through the control valve from top to bottom through the ion exchange resin, which is located in the system’s pressure tank. The water is softened in this area. The exchange resin is designed to absorb calcium and magnesium ions and leave sodium ions in the water.

When the water has reached the lower part of the water softening system, it flows back up through a riser pipe. Special filter nozzles, which are attached to the top of the control valve and the bottom of the riser pipe, ensure that the special resin remains in the pressure vessel. The lime remains in the pressure tank of the system and clean, lime-free water leaves the system in your house line.

Energy-efficient heating

Hard water ensures that limescale can settle in your house water pipes and boilers. Even small lime deposits of just two millimeters mean that your heating costs increase by 20 %.

Longer lifespan of household appliance

Harmful lime deposits in all your water-bearing devices, such as coffee machines, irons, washing machines and dishwashers, humidifiers etc. This leads to wear and tear on your machines in the long term. If you use a water softener, you never have to worry about decalcifying your devices again.

Soft hair and beautiful skin

There is a multitude of soluble salts in hard water. Soft water is low in minerals, so no salts can remain on your hair. Your hair will feel silky smooth after washing. You will feel the same effect on your skin.

Less use of detergent

If you use softer water, you will immediately notice that all soap-like products, such as bath products, shampoos or dishwashing detergents, cleaning agents and detergents, foam up significantly better. As a result, you actually need fewer of these products to achieve the same effect. This saves you money and makes an active contribution to the preservation of our environment.

Better growth of your houseplants

In the wild, plants balance their water balance through rain. Rainwater is basically soft water. Only when it seeps into the ground it mixes with lime. If you water your houseplants with hard water, unsightly limescale stains can accumulate on the leaves.

Reduction of energy costs

Limescale deposits on heating elements, such as those found in washing machines and dishwashers, lead to reduced heating output and therefore lead to increased energy consumption.
