That time of the year always arrives. You can already see yourself: dripping nose, an ever rising energy bill, the excess clothes and the feeling that it always takes too long to go. With the exception of Season Celebrations, you’d be happy to get it all over with, except you can’t! As promised, Winter will come. And it will most likely overstay its welcome.

It doesn’t have to be horrible, though. There are a few things you can do to mitigate the effect of the Season when at home. We’ll get through it together!

Top Tips to Stay Warm at Home During Cold Winters

  • Check that Home insulation. Really. If the cold air comes in, it won’t be welcome. Insulate windows, walls, doors. Check what works best with the budget you have. Up to 30% of heat escapes through walls. Another 30-35% through the roof. Up to 65% is already gone and we haven’t even covered windows and doors and the fact that it is, undeniably and as the Season promises, cold. A proper roof and window insulation will save thousands of bucks throughout the years. Sure the investment is big if you don’t have it all sorted already, but it will pay off.
  • Air Conditioning. We tend to think of it for cool air in the Hot Summer, but it can be your best friend through those cold winters as well. Due to the high-efficient energy devices of today with inverter technology, you can be heating up your home for very little in fact and it’s worth the investment as well with price ranges for all budgets. Just make sure to properly check the energy consumption and noise. Don’t forget the first step, as with bad insulation all that nice warm air will tend to escape unless it can be “trapped” by a good set of doors, windows, walls and roof.
  • Buy fleece pyjamas, robes, sheets. These are almost instant natural heaters when you come in touch with them and it feels amazing to sleep in a cold night when you have good fleece sheets.
  • A bit of a basic one perhaps, but keep doors closed on divisions you don’t use or use less often. And forget about windows.
  • Let the Sun do some work for you. Open up window shades during the day to let the sunlight through.

If you can’t tick all of the boxes on the tips provided, at least try to tick as many as you can. With all or most of them ticked, it will seem like Summer won’t be too far off and that cold Winter will soon be a long gone memory. Until the next one, naturally!
