If you are looking for a way to save money on your bills then there is something you can do with the water bill. The toilet you use and how much water it uses when you flush could save you a lot of money on your water bill. If this sounds good then you might be interested in a water-efficient toilet. What are water-efficient toilets? How are they different from regular toilets?

What is A Water-Efficient Toilet?

The difference between regular toilets and water-efficient toilets is how much water the toilet uses when they flush. Older model toilets can use up to 7 gallons of water every time they are flushed. The standards of federal plumbing state that all current toilets can use up to a maximum of 1.6 gallons in a single flush. Water Efficient Toilets however only use around 1.3 gallons for a single flush.

Another benefit of water-efficient toilets is power, lifetime and effectiveness. If your toilet has a high level of effectiveness then you won’t have to flush the toilet numerous times.

How Do Water Efficient Toilets Work?

Water-efficient toilets dispose of waste in two ways. Every toilet either is gravity driven or pressure-assisted. The gravity-driven toilets get rid of waste by the water being released when the flapper has moved out of the way. Water will make its way down the bowl, getting rid of the contents while gravity is used to pull the contents through the pipes.

When it comes to a pressure-assisted toilet, think of the tank like a big water balloon. The tank will fill up with water and is held in place through pressure. When the valve opens up, gravity and pressure push the contents through resulting in a very strong flush.

If you do not have a high-efficiency toilet, you do not need to run out to the store to purchase one. You can save money if you get the parts needed to change your toilet instead of purchasing a brand new toilet. Statistics say the average toilet at home is flushed 5 times a day and if you have a water-efficient toilet, you could be saving thousands of gallons of water over someone who has their toilet used just as much but is an older toilet that uses 7 gallons every time the toilet is flushed. With all that water saved, you could imagine the savings you would see on your water bill. This is one good place to start if you want to lower your monthly bills.
