Plumbing is dangerous and requires a lot of equipment. One of the most important jobs in plumbing is soldering, where pipes with different sizes and shapes are joined together with melted metal.

Flex shaft technology is used to connect flex shaft handpieces to air or electrical flex shaft machines that provide the necessary power for such operations as sanding, polishing, grinding, and cutting. A flex shaft machine allows the flex shaft to spin at high speeds while applying pressure for these jobs. Without flex shaft technology, soldering would be impossible because it requires small precision tools like miniature torches or irons that are not easily maneuverable by hand.

Many plumbers have to work with flex shaft technology. Flex shaft technology is where a tool attaches to the end of an oil-cooled motor, which supplies power to the tool. The flex shaft rotates inside another tube, making it flexible.

Flex Shaft Technology uses rotating tungsten cutters or burrs inserted into high-speed steel flex drives. The flex drives can flex up to 40 degrees and rotate over 2500 RPM, depending on the flex shaft diameter.

The flex drives are designed with a hollow center that allows a continuous flow of coolant oil to lubricate and cool the flex drive and the attached tool. Flex Shaft Technology also contains slip clutches that prevent the flex shaft or attached tool damage if the flex drive binds up.

Plumbers need to use flex shaft technology due to its ability to get into tight spots without turning a job down. Flex Shaft Technology is usually used with an angle drill attachment but can be used with other attachments, such as die grinders, sanders, etc.

Flex Shaft Technology can be powered by an electric flex shaft or gas flex shaft motor. Flex Shaft Technology can be very dangerous if used incorrectly, but plumbers will never have problems using flex shaft technology in their daily work with the proper training.

HOW DOES FLEX SHAFT TECHNOLOGY RELATE TO PLUMBING?

Plumbers use flex shaft technology to get into tight spots and corners with various flex drive attachments such as sanders, angle grinders, die grinders, etc. Flex shaft technology is also known for having slip clutches to protect flex shafts and flex drive attachments if they bind up.

Using flex shaft technology with angle grinders is often used for plumbing purposes when plumbers run into tight corners or need to get into hard-to-reach spots.

Plumbers will also commonly use flex shaft technology with angle grinders to cut holes in drywall to patch up plumbing leaks.
