Lime is a material obtained from limestone sedimentary rock; which is a calcium carbonate, which when calcined at an elevated temperature, is converted into a calcium oxide which is commonly known as quicklime and this in contact with water, is hydrated forming the white powder known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime. This is the product that is marketed in packaging and is used primarily in construction, without this application being exclusive of others in the food and pharmaceutical industries among others.

It is important to know the variations that exist between one product and another, since their correct selection and application will depend on it.

Due to its excellent performance in masonry tasks such as brickwork, plastering, painting, waterproofing and others, Lime has been used in construction since ancient times and at various latitudes. This is also due to the fact that limestone deposits are abundant on the planet.

Lime is a natural product that offers great benefits at a reasonable cost and the best of all is that it was, is and promises to be a long term construction alternative

How to remove lime?

Lime is deposited on taps, removing the shine and leaving unsightly white spots. To remove limescale we can use a specific cleaning product, but if you don’t have one at home or prefer homemade alternatives here are a few ideas.

One of the main problems with dirty taps is caused by hard water that leaves lime stains.

By using half a lemon, or applying vinegar to a cotton ball or cloth, we can remove the lime residue. We simply have to rub the stained areas and persist in those where there is more accumulation of lime. In this way you will recover the shine in a surprising way.

It is important not to let the taps drip to avoid the formation of lime and to change the washers whenever necessary. In this way we will also avoid wasting water.

In the toilet there is also a lot of lime even if we do not manage to appreciate it, this lime can be quite bad over time, even breaking pipes.

We pour a mixture of vinegar and borax into the toilet, like two cups. We leave it for two hours to dissolve the lime well.

We rub with the brush, with this we will manage to remove the lime that is more encrusted.

Now we just have to flush. When we pull the cistern, the water will leave all the lime to be cleaned, as well as the pipes inside.
